Let’s talk Melaleuca, I LOVE the products because i have a genuine NEED to use cleaners in my day to day, it’s not something EXTRA
Melaleuca is an MLM company. YES i said it right up front. It has been around for a very long time, and is mainly known for their cleaning and household products.
Our home is on Septic, we need to be careful what products we use, and we also don't enjoy a strong chemical smell, neither will our guests.
Noone wants to arrive to a vacation rental home smelling like bleach, pine sol or crazy overpowering smells of any kind (hint if you are using plug in air fresheners, GET RID OF THEM!)
Using the natural, concentrated Melaleuca products, we have reduced a huge amount of our every day plastics waste and continue to do so by re-ordering the refill products and our space has very little smell for arriving guests, it just seems fresh and airy.We need to clean our house, and our short term rental all the time.
We use a large amount of different cleaners for our short term rental (and our home) so using the concentrated Melaleuca products, we have reduced a huge amount of our every day plastics waste and continue to do so by re-ordering the refill products that do not come with a giant spray nozzle or any large plastic bottles, just a tidy, tiny little concentrated cleaning product jammed to the lid with liquid.
We also use their squeegee and microfibre clothes to cut down on paper towel use as much as possible. Cleaning Glass showers takes some effort, their microfibre cloths and my stash of amazon favourite SHAMWOWs are my go-to’s to tackle our glass and tile showers.
The small, square refill bottles tuck neatly into our drawers and totes and take up far less space than giant bulk bottles as you are buying concentrated products rather than premixed (aka full of extra liquid) .
That time our guest somehow got a tree-sap like sticky product all over the brand new floors from wearing shoes in the house. Sol-u-Mel worked instantly, just pour a little on and without needing a crazy amount of scrubbing, it all lifted right off with no damage to our laminate floor.
Here’s the thing. I have never been into MLM anything, never sold any catalogue MLM things, can’t remember even hosting a catalog party of any kind, never wanted to have anything to do with selling stuff, its just not me. BUT I am using something from almost every collection in their catalog, not just cleaning supplies and natural snacking, but hair care, essential oils, multivitamins and more, so it’s more of an every day shopping list than a non stop upsell of commission products. I have an account, I pick what i want on my monthly order, i sometimes share with friends if i don’t want a lot of new stuff for the month, and I’m set. All the time. No shortage of cleaning supplies and it doesn’t take up a lot of storage with the concentrated mini bottles.
I have had a Melaleuca account several times over in the past 10 years, but when my supplies run out, I really struggle to replace them with something of the same quality that is not super chemical ridden/greenwashed/stinky, so then I am right back here, placing a new order and restocking EVERYTHING that we’ve been missing.
The products smell AMAZING. They don’t have a chemical smell or anything too strong or overwhelming. They just smell fresh and clean and do not have a residual overpowering smell that hits your guest in the face if they check in right after you finish cleaning. Its just a subtle aroma of natural products and essential oils.

We had baby ducklings in our suite for a photo shoot and got green bird poop all over the bottom of the white sheer curtains. After a quick pre-spot treatment and a run through the wash using MelaBrite (their version of an oxi-clean) and Mela-power laundry soap, the curtains were good as new.

We even use some things for our farm chores (disinfect the chicken coop and feeders) and the garage (Sol-u-Mel, that stuff is MAGIC). Sol-u-guard disinfectant spray to wash our tools and feeders and wipe down the handles to the coop doors and garden sheds.
We also use some products on our BOAT
to clean up regularly after stains and mildew collect easily (Melamagic, the eco friendly version of a magic eraser for that crazy mildew winter buildup on boats).
I pretty much bathe in the sunscreen from April to September with all the hours outside in the garden and if your Vacation Rental is at a sunny destination, you can easily include these sunscreens as an amenity for your guests, or an extra item they can purchase from you for their arrival if you offer pre-stocking of food and supplies
Our home and short term rental property has a sensitive septic system and a salmon bearing stream right down the edge of the yard, so the thought about all the icky stuff going into our water/septic is top of mind all the time.

Many new documentaries show RECYCLING doesn’t really solve the plastic problem, REDUCING is the important part, well I do my best to REUSE as many things as possible and to REDUCE consumption by buying concentrated products that require less plastic use.

While recycling is good for the environment, the best way to reduce waste is by reducing waste. Recycling is what happens after you’ve generated the waste. It shouldn’t be a reason to use as much of something as you want because you’ll recycle it later. If you really want to do what’s best for the environment, find ways to reduce how much you consume, such as opting for a reusable water bottle instead of disposable plastic bottles or reading the newspaper online instead of as a hard copy.
